AppleSeed Partners
Do you remember the story of Johnny Appleseed? His real name was John Chapman and he lived during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Johnny devoted forty years of his life to planting and nurturing apple trees in the wilderness of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. He gave bags of seeds to other pioneers as they passed by in their covered wagons. When they paid him, he gave the money away. He lived to see thousands of acres of apple trees planted from his stock of seeds.
If Johnny Appleseed made such a great impact working virtually alone, what kind of lasting influence could an AppleSeed Partnership have? What if the partnership was not one of planting and nurturing apple seeds in the soil of mid-America, but of planting and nurturing spiritual seeds in the lives of children on Chicago’s west side? What kind of lasting change would we see in the “landscape” around us?
We’re inviting you on an adventure that will do just that. As an AppleSeed Partner you will come alongside Circle’s children & youth by sponsoring activities during the hours after school, over school holidays, and summer break. Partners also support students in the Mentoring Program which fosters positive relationships with peers and nurturing adults, equipping and challenging students toward their God-given purpose in life.

On the west side of Chicago, young future urban leaders wait for wise people who will invest in their success. They have been “planted” in the rich soil of Catalyst Circle-Rock School where they feed on educational nutrients during the school day. After school they continue to grow as they enter the Circle For Success (after-school enrichment) and meet weekly with their Mentors who help expand and deepen their understanding of the world around them.
Perhaps you have heard the saying “a cord of three strands (which) is not easily broken”. (Eccl. 4:12). As an AppleSeed Partner, you become the third strand in the cord of our students’ lives.
- The first strand is our students’ parents who work diligently to send their children to the Circle For Success year-round enrichment program.
- The second strand is the staff of Circle For Success who are there to guide, nurture, and instruct every day.
- The third strand is our AppleSeed Partners who assist with your time, talent and treasure. The cost of year-round after-school enrichment is $4,000 per student. Families sacrificially pay $1,500 leaving a need of $2,500 per student.
The cost for each mentor-mentee match is $1,650 per school year. |
